July Giveaway

It's that time again; giveaway time! This month's giveaway runs from Wednesday, July 15th to Wednesday, July 22nd at 11:59pm EST. One winner will be chosen. The prize this time is a hand-painted pendant necklace! The pendant can be seen below; it's an eye-catching 0.75 inch (1.9 cm) circle fine art pendant with a resin finish on a black waxed cotton cord. The winner will be able to pick between a 16, 18 or 20-inch cord. This tiny acrylic painting features a bright green flower on a yellow-green background. The piece is unique and one-of-a-kind, so when you are wearing an Allover Art piece, you know that you are the only one in the world wearing it.

1) Go to my Etsy shop and pick out your favorite item. In my shop, www.alloverart.etsy.com, I have a wide variety of items. I have several hand-painted fine art pendant necklaces with a resin finish, brooches, rings, bobby pins, and more!

Ring Of The Month Club

Treat yourself or someone you love; receive a new hand-painted adjustable art ring made just for you in the mail every month for six months.


During the first week of every month for six months you (or someone you love) will receive an eye-catching 0.75 inch (1.9 cm) circle art antique bronze adjustable ring. Each ring will be made specifically for you and will not come from existing inventory. You can pick from four themes for your rings; nature, cute, pets, or simple and elegant.


Each original miniature painting is created with high quality acrylic paints on a wooden tile. The painting is then sealed on every surface making it water-resistant, and then receives a high-gloss resin finish which gives it a very shiny and polished look. The finished effect is similar to that of a heavy glass ring, but it is actually very lightweight. The ring features a nickel-free antique bronze adjustable ring securely attached to the back. The ring can be adjusted comfortably up to just above a size eight.

What Do You Want To See Allover Art Create?

If you're an artist or artisan and you've never done an art and craft show, you should really try doing one! This past weekend I had a booth at Artsplosure 2009 in downtown Raleigh. Here's a big THANK YOU to all of you who stopped by to say 'hi'. :) The show was a HUGE success for me; well at least on Saturday. Sunday it was rainy, windy, and cold and after a few hours Indie and I packed up and left. About 2/3 of the other artists there did the same; it was miserable. Indie actually came along on Sunday and had a great time at his first show until we both started shivering.


Saturday at the show was PACKED even though there were four sudden downpours. I apologize again to the woman who got soaked when a breeze dumped the water that had pooled on my awning square in her face. I sold half my inventory and now have a large number of custom orders to complete. My Etsy shop is looking a little depleted and sad with so many listings gone.


Allover Art needs your help! Since half of my inventory found new homes on Saturday, I'm working like mad to build it back up, and I want to hear what you want. Mother's Day Is May 10th

Mother's Day will be here before you know it! Here's a little history about the holiday according to Wikipedia.

The modern Mother's Day holiday was created by Anna Jarvis as a day for each family to honor its mother, and it's now celebrated on various days in many places around the world. It complements Father's Day, the celebration honoring fathers.

This holiday is relatively modern, being created at the start of the 20th century, and should not be confused with the early pagan and christian traditions honoring mothers, or with the 16th century celebration of Mothering Sunday, which is also known as Mother's Day in the UK.

In most countries the Mother's Day celebration is a recent holiday derived from the original US celebration. Exceptions are, for example, the Mothering Sunday holiday in the UK.

Monday Must-Have

Today marks a new installment of my Monday blog series titled Monday Must-Have. Each Monday I will feature a fellow talented Etsian and his or her phenomenal work. Each featured artist will have his or her own online Etsy shop where you can peruse and admire his or her one-of-a-kind body of work. Hopefully you will find new favorite artists and artisans whose work you MUST HAVE. :)

Today's featured artist is.....me! I thought that you may want to know a little more about me, Ruth of Allover Art. ;)

Who are you (actual name/and or shop name)?

My name is Ruth and my shop and business name is Allover Art.

What do you create?

Who says art should only be displayed on walls? I take great joy in creating hand-painted wearable art with a shiny resin finish. Each piece is UNIQUE and ONE-OF-A-KIND, so when you are wearing an Allover Art piece, you know that you are the only one in the world wearing it. I also create original oil paintings and pet portraits, however, I removed them from my Etsy shop since they were getting buried by my wearable art.

Where are you located?

I live in Holly Springs, NC with my husband and two rescue pooches Kasey and Indie. Kasey is a 3-year old German Shepherd mix who weighs 105 pounds, and Indie is an 8-week old Beagle mix who weighs 4.8 pounds. They are very comical together.

When did you start creating?

I took a general visual arts class in high school and really enjoyed oil painting. I continued to paint on my own as a hobby through college and for a year or two afterward. In early 2008 I became a full-time artist specializing in pet portraits after a coworker asked me to paint a portrait of his pets as a Christmas gift. Other people saw it and the commissions started coming in. Then in the fall of 2008 I began creating my wearable art on a whim. I was looking to create something unique and original at a much lower price than my original oil paintings and my wearable art just took off!

Why did you choose your shop name?

When I originally started my business I also offered mural painting and faux painting. Since I was offering so many forms of art/painting, I chose Allover Art because my work had so much variety. I still offer mural and faux painting but that part never really took off. My house has some fun faux finishes and a mural or two though. :)

What inspires you?

Every day things inspire me, especially nature and my family. I love bright colors and like to create pieces that stand out and are like nothing else.

What is the most time consuming part of your craft?

For oil painting, the most time-consuming part is the actual painting; well, it takes longer to dry than to paint, but I don't have to do anything for that. For my wearable art, the most time-consuming part (other than waiting for the resin to cure) is painting my pet portrait pendants. I spend extra time on them to make sure they look exactly like the photos of the pets.

What is your most popular item that you create (and why do you think it is so popular)?

My most popular items are my wearable art pendants, more specifically my pet portrait pendants. As a pet owner myself, I completely understand how important our pets are and how they are part of the family.

How do you acquire new clients?

I acquire most of my new customers through word of mouth and at art and craft shows. Once people can actually see my work at shows and can touch my wearable art, they fall in love with the pieces. They love how vibrant, smooth, unique, and lightweight they are.

What's your next project going to be?

I'm always working on new pieces. Right now I am working on some wearable art earrings which I hope to introduce to you in a few weeks.

What types of things do you do to turn first time buyers into repeat clients?

I strive to provide the best customer service possible. I also include a handwritten note and a coupon with each order. I also like to thank those who support me. What do you do when you are not creating?

When I'm not creating I try to spend time with my family. I go on daily runs with Kasey (who at the moment can't go with me because she is recovering from an injury), spend time with my husband, play with the pooches, and work on training with Indie the puppy. He is quite the handful at the moment. Also, my sister is getting married in June and I am the Matron of Honor so I have a few things to work on for that. ;)

New Wearable Art!

This afternoon and throughout the week I'll be listing brand new wearable art. I will finally have several new bird silhouette art pendants. The bird silhouette pendants are some of my more popular designs, and I am excited to have several new pieces to list. In the past I've only made one or two with each batch of new wearable art and they always sell very quickly or get requested to be shipped with consignment orders. The last time I listed one it sold within 15 minutes of listing. Some pieces may be similar but no two are exactly the same. The new pieces will be listed in several new colors. I've also created a brand new size of wearable art rings! The new rings will feature 0.75 inch diameter miniature circle paintings.
